The world of The Last of Us has not ended!

Based on the Naughty Dog videogame series of the same name, HBO has already renewed its TV adaptation of The Last of Us for a second season.

Besides featuring Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, this queer-inclusive series also includes a gay couple consisting of Murray Bartlett as Frank and Nick Offerman as Bill. The premiere episode of The Last of Us scored HBO’s second-highest HBO debut ratings in 12 years, second only to the grand premiere of House of the Dragon.

HBO announced season two of The Last of Us with a teaser video on social media. “The journey continues,” the caption reads. “The Last of Us will return for another season on HBO Max.”

The queer characters of Bill and Frank had already been introduced in The Last of Us games, but the show promised to dive even deeper into their storylines in the TV adaptation. The games introduced Bill as a significant character, and it was revealed that he lived with a male partner called Frank. However, the show is poised to explore that relationship a lot further.

LGBTQ+ viewers, as well as longtime fans of The Last of Us videogame series, are more than excited to learn more about Bill and Frank over the course of season one. With this queer-inclusive show now getting a second season, the doors are open for potentially even more queer representation in the future.

We will keep tuning in to watch The Last of Us!

The Last of Us airs Sundays on HBO and HBO Max.
