Melanie Lynskey Excited To Keep Pushing Gay Agenda On The Last Of Us

Gotta love having allies like Melanie Lynskey!

Best known for her roles on Togetherness, Up in the Air, Heavenly Creatures, and The Intervention, Lynskey has recently been making waves for playing Shauna on Showtime’s Yellowjackets.

While Lyndsey doesn’t identify as LGBTQ+ herself, the actress is largely considered a queer icon and is beloved by the community. With the announcement that she’ll be featured on HBO’s queer-inclusive The Last of Us series, an anonymous Twitter user complained that her presence on the show would mean “more homosexual agenda pushing.”

The actress saw a screenshot of this bizarre tweet and wrote in response, “OMG yes let me push that homosexual agenda just by showing up! An honor!” For context, Lyndsey’s character on The Last of Us isn’t known to identify as LGBTQ+ either, which makes the anonymous Twitter user’s comment even funnier.

HBO’s television adaptation of The Last of Us videogame series features Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. The third episode of the show was dedicated to exploring Bill’s (played by Nick Offerman) background and gay love story with Frank (played by Murray Bartlett).

While there has been the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters and storylines on The Last of Us show, the videogame series also featured those same plot points and individuals, so there haven’t been any surprises here. Given that the TV adaptation has been faithful to the game, we can expect even more queer characters and stories to be told throughout season one and the already-confirmed second season of the show.

Conservatives are way too triggered by what they call “the gay agenda,” even when it doesn’t make any sense! We need to laugh and support allies like Melanie Lynskey.
