Theo James Talks 'Donkey' Sized Prosthetic He Donned for White Lotus
Plus, how Leo Woodall's family reacted to that surprising twist.
Theo James stripped down in the first episode of The White Lotus this season and some fans still haven’t recovered. But the full-frontal wasn’t all him, and now the actor is dishing about his own reaction to the prosthetic.
Speaking with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, James explained that he had had conversations with the show’s makeup department head about his character’s equipment ahead of the shoot — and the two decided it would be “regular.”
“I said, ‘Honestly, I just want it not to be distracting. He needs to be Regular Joe, ‘cause the scene’s… you know, it’s not about the pee-pee, it’s about power play and sex. It’s about whether he did it deliberately or whether it was an accident and what that means and all that kind of stuff,’” he recalled.
Of course, anyone who has seen White Lotus that’s not exactly how things played out. When James got to set, he and creator Mike White were shocked by the size of the prosthetic, which he estimated came in at “nine inches flat and about four inches wide.”
“It’s like she stole it off a donkey in the field,” he joked. “The thing is ginormous.”
Season two of White Lotus has provided more surprises than just a giant dick prosthetic. Last week’s episode took a seemingly incestuous gay turn that left viewers floored — until they remembered they were watching HBO.
Actor Leo Woodall recently spoke about what it was like surprising his own family with the twist that his character, Jack, was hooking up with someone who was allegedly his uncle (Tom Hollander).
“I hadn’t told a single soul that happens, so they were all quite flabbergasted,” he told PEOPLE. “I don’t know why I chose to watch with my brother. It was just funny. I recorded his reaction, and it was quite something.”
The White Lotus has become known for its surprisingly scandalous moments, and with just one episode left in the current season, there will undoubtedly be at least one more turn to catch fans off guard and capture the conversation.

Season two of The White Lotus started airing on October 30, 2022 and will conclude on December 11, 2022.
HBO has already renewed The White Lotus for a third season.
