It's a modern love story!
Season two of My Unorthodox Life just dropped last week on Netflix and the binge-worthy show dives deeper into the personal lives of Julia Haart and Robert Brotherton.
The new episodes follow some of the toughest roads for the duo yet, including Haart’s public divorce and Brotherton’s career change.
"It was a crazy time for all of us. I lost my job at the same time she did. Throughout the process, my whole strategy with everything is staying as positive as possible. She was going through a very tough fight for her life and it's still ongoing," Brotherton tells PRIDE.
Haart and Brotherton's bond is also tested this season as the two maneuver their growing friendship amidst their personal drama.
"What you'll see this season is our real friendship. You'll see what really happens between two people who love each other. There are ups and there are downs. If I took anything from it, it's that I can always be better. You live and you learn."
As an out gay star of the hit show, viewers really connected with Brotherton's personal story — including his adoption as an infant.
"So many people reached out to me with similar stories. It's very humbling to see how... just being yourself a little bit on screen can help other people. I try to be as real as possible. I don't want to be a gay sidekick. I want people to hear my story. They're going to see it all!"
Speaking of real, the star is bringing the audience into his love life for the first time. Brotherton began dating his longtime friend Ra'ed Saade in an open relationship.
"I've been single for so long. This was my first fully committed relationship. We have this very open dialogue about [being] in an open relationship. Having that conversation and making it open is something that everyone can benefit from. I don't know a gay couple on earth who hasn't at least, talked about the subject."
