We Can't Believe Matt Bomer Blocked Trans Actress Jamie Clayton on Twitter

Sense8 star and trans actress Jamie Clayton shared her thoughts on Matt Bomer playing a transgender sex worker, and it looks like Matt Bomer's shared his too.

Ever since it was announced that out actor Matt Bomer (American Horror Story: Hotel, Magic Mike, The Normal Heart)  would be playing a transgender sex worker in the upcoming film Anything, the internet's been in an uproar. The film, executive produced by Mark Ruffalo, also stars John Carroll Lynch as a suicidal man dealing with the death of his wife who becomes close with Matt's character. While in this Variety piece, Mark refers to the film as "daring," Twitter erupted against the move, with many sharing their fury over yet another cisgender man playing a trans role, as Jared Leto did and won an Oscar for in Dallas Buyer's Club. The trend of having cisgender actors play trans characters is offensive and has been dubbed "trans face," an issue that has come up time and time again with each new casting of a cis actor in a trans role from Jeffrey Tambor in Transparent to Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl.

One person who shared her outrage/dismay on Twitter in response to Bomer's being cast as a trans woman was Jamie Clayton, the transgender actress who plays Nomi on the Netflix series Sense8.

Jamie shared her thoughts on Matt's casting and was met with a pretty harsh reaction.

Jamie's attempt to connect with Matt ended in him blocking her completely instead of accepting her request to have a consveration on the matter.

We're surprised and disappointed that Matt would make this move. If Matt's going to play this role, then personal research and dedication should be considered important, and we wish he'd accepted Jamie's request instead of rejecting it so aggressively. We haven't seen Matt's side to the story, of course, but right now we're not about this news at all.

UPDATE:

A recent tweet from Jamie's account reports that Matt has unblocked her:

Glad to see this resolved so quickly, and hopefully these two can continue to connect.
