Is Zac Efron's Ted Bundy Movie Romanticizing a Serial Killer?

The trailer for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile has divided the internet.

Zac Efron slays in the trailer for his latest movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, a biopic on Ted Bundy who confessed to murdering over 30 women in the 1970s.

The trailer hit the internet Friday and was instantly met with controversy as Zefron fans began to thirst over him as Bundy.

With Efron's winks at the camera and the trailer's cheesy music, many seemed to think that the trailer was romanticizing one of America's most notorious serial killers—and the outrage began to pour in from all corners of the internet.

Is it though? Efron previously told Indiewire that the film simply shows how people perceived Bundy as charismatic and charming when he was secretly so monstrous. "It doesn’t really glorify Ted Bundy. He wasn’t a person to be glorified. It simply tells a story and sort of how the world was able to be charmed over by this guy who was notoriously evil and the vexing position that so many people were put in, the world was put in. It was fun to go and experiment in that realm of reality."

Extremely Wicked is also told from his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer's point of view, who was in deep denial about the horrible acts Bundy committed. Since Bundy was able to charm the world, perhaps Efron's casting in the film is purposeful, who has long been celebrated as an All-American boy-next-door type.

The debate still rages on, but this guy perhaps had the winning tweet out of all of this.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is looking for a 2019 US release. Will you be watching the film?
