If you watch Chelsea on Netflix, you know Chelsea Handler is not shy; she tells it as she sees it. Since the crowning of King Drumpf, Handler has used her platform to stand up for the rights of others. Despite the unrelenting backlash from asshats on Twitter, she continues to fight against the Trump administration and many of its policies, including the controversial immigration ban from seven predominately Muslim countries.
Today, Handler explained her political motivations in a heartfelt video on Instagram. She acknowledged that she's a white person of privilege and that many of the president's plans don't affect her directly.
"I make a lot of money, and I don't have a lot of problems," she said from a hotel room in India. "A lot of what this administration has proposed thus far won't affect me personally. I don't need Planned Parenthood. I can pay for my own medical care."
"I'm not an immigrant. I was born here. I'm not Muslim. I'm not Mexican. I'm not black. I'm not gay or ... transgender. But, I know this country is based on inclusiveness. On welcoming people. On loving people that are not like you. On not worrying about how something impacts your life personally, but how it impacts [everyone]. ... It's compassion, and it's empathy. And, I will fight for it, and if I come across as being aggressive, it's because I care so much about doing the right thing."
