The first trailer for American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace has finally arrived!

The show follows the true-story fashion icon Gianni Versace's murder. The minute-and-a-half preview pulls all the punches, giving us a mournful Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace, Ricky Martin covered in blood as Gianni Versace’s lover Antonio D’Amico, and Darren Criss making us ugly cry as serial killer Andrew Cunanan.

The show is based on journalist Maureen Orth's account of the murder in her book Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History. Showrunner Ryan Murphy is excited to premiere the series, even if the Versace family doesn't appreciate their story being told so dramatically.

"I think that the Versaces will like some of what we do, and I think that some of it they will be uncomfortable about," said Murphy. "I understand that. But we’re going off a book, and other reporting that we’ve done. I think [the show] is moving. I think it’s powerful."

The Assassination of Gianni Versace premieres on FX on January 17, 2018. Watch the trailer below:
