A Drag Race Season 11 Queen Admits She's a Registered Republican
RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Silky Nutmeg Ganache has come out as a registered Republican.

On tonight's episode, the queens lip-sync to "Trump: the Rusical," which prompts RuPaul to ask the girls if they're registered to vote in the workroom walkarounds.
"I'm actually a registered Republican," says the Mississippi native. "Because of gentrification and movement of the districts. It's very important that people realize that if you want to stop that within the political process, get smarter than them. Register as a Republican, and they'll have to redo everything."
"So you have a strategy to infiltrate the Republican party and circumvent their gerrymandering?" asks RuPaul.
Gerrymandering is a process where state legislators strategically frame district lines to secure votes in their favor from socioeconomic groups of people. For example, The Washington Post alleges that in 2010, the GOP intentionally gained control of government positions that could redraw districts. Through gerrymandering those districts, a Republican could lose a state's popular vote but still land enough combined district votes to win a position in the House of Representatives.
Gentrification is a contested legal way for the GOP to keep Democrats gridlocked out of the House, but it's not exactly clear what Silky's infiltration plan is here. When they see a queer Black person in their district voting against their interests, the GOP will try to redraw the lines? I'm not exactly holding my breath.
Registering as a Republican also prevents Ganache from voting in Democratic primary and caucus elections, but she would be able to vote for whoever she deemed fit for, say Presidential elections. Silky did want to make THAT clear.
"Just because I'm a registered Republican doesn't mean I actually vote Republican," proclaims future Dr. Ganache. "Bitch, I ain't never voted for Trump."
