CBS All Access Offers to Pick Up One Day at a Time

After Netflix cancelled One Day at a Time, the hunt began to find a new home for season four of the beloved sitcom.

But now the streaming behemoth may block those attempts.

The show’s production company, Sony Pictures Television, has reportedly received an offer from CBS All Access to pick up the show. But Netflix’s original deal with Sony can allow it to “veto any move to a streaming network for at least two years after cancellation,” reports Vulture.

The site also reports that executive producer Norman Lear has requested Netflix waive that veto right, but so far, no luck.

It sounds as if Sony and CBS All Access are still trying to work something out, but even if Netflix does crush the deal, they won’t have the ability to do so if a cable or broadcast network offers to pick up the show, rather than another streaming platform.

Pop TV is reportedly interested if they can find another network to partner with to afford the sitcom.

So it’s both good and bad news for One Day at a Time fans — there are other platforms interested in saving the show, but Netflix might just have to be convinced to let them.

Netflix initially released a statement that the choice to cancel the inclusive show was “very difficult” and that they “spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work.” If this is really true, maybe they’ll step up and do the right thing by letting it live on elsewhere.
