Netflix's 'On My Block' Cast Talks Fan Pressure & Representation

The third season of Netflix's popular teen, high-school drama On My Block just dropped, and PRIDE's editor-in-chief Raffy Ermac got to sit down with the show's talented cast of stars—Jessica Marie Garcia, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Sierra Capri, and Diego Tinoco!

"I did, for real. I was like, 'Oh my gosh, I hope they love this season.' 'Cause like their reactions are so incredible," Jessica Marie Garcia (who plays Jasmine) said when asked about whether or not the cast feels pressure from fans every time the shows comes back for another season. "I love watching the YouTube reactions when they're watching it real-time. Oh my God, that just makes me so happy, so I want another season of that."

"I feel honored," Garcia then said when asked about what it means to be a part of a show that is bringing more diversity and representation—especially for young Black and Brown kids from inner cities—to TV. "I feel like I would have loved to had a show like this growing up, so it kinda feels surreal to be a part of that. 'Cause again like what Diego said, you don't know how a show's gonna be received at first, so the fact that there are like a generation of kids who see themselves in us and like now believe that they can do what we do is beautiful."

"I think it's kind of amazing to know that you're doing what you were looking for, you know growing up," Jason Genao (who plays Ruby) added. "Becoming actors, you were like looking for these things that told you it's okay to do that or it is possible and so now us being on this type of show that quote-unquote opens the doors for other people, it's like, you know, it's kind of, I still, I'm shocked."

Season 3 of On My Block is now streaming on Netflix
