The Steamiest Moments of 'Bridgerton' Season 2
Is it hot in here or is it just Miss Sharma and the Viscount Anthony Bridgerton?
While season 2 of Bridgerton may not have given us quantity when it came to… body talk this season, it did have plenty to say with its quality scenes of lustful intention.
The Viscount (Jonathan Bailey) has sworn off romance and is only interested in choosing a future Lady Bridgerton who checks as many boxes on his mundane list as possible. Kathani “Call me Kate” Sharma (Simone Ashley) is the adopted daughter of Lady Mary Sharma (Shelley Conn) and half-sister of Edwina (Charithra Chandran).
Considering herself a spinster at the ripe old age of 26, Kate’s goal is to find her sister a suitor and secure her family’s financial stability. Edwina becomes enamored with the Viscount, but Kate dissuades her. Partly because she thinks Anthony is a capital R - Rake, and partly because she might not mind that as much as she thinks she should.
Two strong-willed, stubborn people trying their best to control something as fickle yet overpowering as love? The tension between them is nearly palpable and entirely intriguing.
Today we’re going to promenade through Bridgerton Season 2’s steamiest moments!
Give it a Capital R - Rest!
Episode 1 - 13:28
The Viscount has always been practical so I’m sure patronizing the less fortunate while getting his rocks off seemed equally advantageous. Sadly it doesn’t seem to relieve any stress. Maybe a nap would be a better activity than soliciting all the ladies of the night while you try and find a wife? Technically there’s nothing wrong with him partaking, he is a single gentleman after all. There’s just something disconcerting about seeing him cross women off a list for a small infraction and then bed these women with whom he’ll never have a future. Priorities, Viscount!
That’s Not the Point, Anthony!
Episode 1 - 36:25
Kate overhears Anthony talking about the prospects (or lack thereof) of the Bridgerton debutantes. He loudly and obnoxiously speaks of how unnecessary love is and he’d rather have a woman of wit and child-bearing hips. Of course, Kate gives him the what-for, and Anthony attempts to declare that what she heard wasn’t for her ears. Uhh… that’s not the point! How about we nix that list and realize the woman in front of you is a human being and she’s yelling at you because secretly she wants you to be a better man and omg kiss already don’t let her walk away! Oh, Anthony…
Let’s All Go to the Races
Episode 2 - 15:50
Though this section could also be titled “Justice for Lumley” (Louis Gaunt), a day at the races was made all the more tempting by the wager between the Viscount and Miss Sharma. They completely forget their surroundings and goad each other as their horses tear towards the finish line. While Lord Lumley insists he’s having so much fun, Edwina and Mr. Thomas Dorset (Sam Frenchum) wonder if maybe they shouldn’t separate the two. Both know that neither should get in the way of whatever is going on between them. It appears to be lighthearted competitiveness, but underneath simmers something more.
I Wish That I Shall Never See A Poet As Fine as Lumley
Episode 2 - 41:03
Alright, so I’m a Lumley stan. He’s so cute! He’s got some luscious waves under that top hat. And the way he recites is so full of meaning and good-heartedness. He bests the Viscount in my opinion as Anthony sloppily tries to recite the poem Benny (Benedict Bridgerton) gave to him. I’ll note that the entirety of this talent show is absolutely bananas and has inspired several rewatches (guy with the ring on a string is second only to Ron Weasley’s belabored Irish jig). But Lumley’s verselet added a sincerity and loveliness to the room that was then discarded. I hope he found someone to love. I’m available, my lord!
Once You Go Black Mallet, You Never Go Back… Mallet
Episode 3 - 17:25
It’s a friendly (read: overwhelmingly competitive) game of pall mall and the Bridgertons afford their guests -- the Sharma’s -- the benefit of choosing their mallets. Edwina’s choice is perfunctory while Kate’s choice -- the mallet of death, normally reserved for Anthony -- shocks everyone. This sets off a barb-laden tete-a-tete that sees the two alone in a muddy bog. Finally, the two can laugh as each is covered in mud. Unfortunately, they are near a section of the gardens which brings great pain to Anthony. We see Kate’s walls start to soften just as Anthony finally shows some vulnerability. He hardens back up almost as quickly and the moment is lost.
As the Bee Stings
Episode 3: - 1:02:45
This moment is not so much steamy as it is necessary to understand where Anthony’s hesitations lie. We also see Kate trying to understand and dropping the facade of hatred to give comfort and compassion to Anthony, two traits which their relationship of sorts was certainly lacking. This moment was as swoon-worthy as it was devastating.
The Horniest Weekend in the Country
There’s something about the country air and the blossom of summer that seems to ignite the loins of our Regency Londoners. Kate and Anthony have several moments filled with heavy breathing, inappropriate closeness, and shooting… with guns, ahem. From 20:00 where Anthony attempts to help Kate shoot her shot (literally), to 27:45 where during late-night unrest Anthony confesses to Kate the impact of his father’s death leads to another aborted moment of intimacy, the sparks are flying. Even Colin (Luke Newton) and Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) notice something is afoot. Daphne wonders, “We are all Bridgertons, isn’t there something in us that requires a challenge?” There certainly is.
Scream it for the Cheap Seats in the Back!
Episode 5 - 43:15
“You are the bane of my existence. And the object of all my desires.” ‘Nuff said.
Okay, okay, I’ll elaborate, “Do you even know all the ways a lady can be sedused? The things I could teach you.” Listen, the heavy breathing, Tom Verica’s intimate direction, the closeness, the glittering of the rhinestones on Kate’s dress? The scene is so sumptuous and that much more frustrating when they are driven past the point of no return and right into a wall of responsibility.
At Last, My Love Has Come
Episode 7 - 49:45
Lord! Just when I thought these two were never gonna have a little congress, Anthony demands that Kate “Go. Inside”. She balks at his orders and basically signifies she would like him to go inside… of her. The two look at each other with equal parts audacity and longing. He will stop, he won’t stop, she won’t let him, he won’t let her stop him and around and around they go until clothes become shed and the conveniently placed backless settee holds them in the midst of their love-making. Truly electric and beautifully done and just when you think finally they are together, she’s gone at the break of dawn. Bridgerton, such a tease!
Okay… Y’all Cute!
Episode 8 - 1:05:20
Finally, all of the misunderstandings are out the window and our couple is together again. Will this happiness destroy the banter and charged energy between the two? Based on this scene and the following post-honeymoon pall mall match, we have nothing to worry about. I cooed, I was awed, and was so happy by this beautiful addition to the Bridgerton clan.
Honorable Mention #1: Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton
Perhaps Colin will open his eyes and return Pen’s affections. But, probably not.
Honorable Mention #2: Eloise Bridgerton and her grimy guy Theo Sharpe
Eloise goes slumming it in the bad part of town to learn about controversial topics of the day like feminism and raising the minimum wage. Can’t relate.
Honorable Mention #3: Lady Portia Featherington and the second Lord “Cousin Jack” Featherington
Originally they started as contentious, and Portia tricks Jack into proposing to her daughter Philippa (Harriet Cains). Soon though, Jack is impressed and titillated by Portia’s conniving and more than a few heated moments transpire between them. Some men prefer their loves to have an impressive vintage, something of which Portia is surely not lacking.
Honorable Mention #4: Benedict and his Model Companion, Tessa
They first encountered each other while Benedict was a student at the Royal School for Art. Tessa was a model and Benedict learns that she’s there to pick up lessons via osmosis. She’s able to sit in on classes not afforded to women, she just has to do it naked. Tessa turns the tables, making Benedict disrobe for her and a sensual relationship is born.
