‘Elite’ Star Omar Ayuso Announces Exit From the Teen Netflix Drama

Is this the end of Omar and Ander?

Elite, Netflix's murderous YA series that become an international hit, has launched the careers of many of its stars – and that includes Omar Ayuso.

When the show first premiered on the streaming platform in 2018, Ayuso was just 20-years-old. His then drug-dealing character, also named Omar, fell for a local boy named Ander and struggled to juggle his affections with coming out to his devout Muslim family. The seasons-long romance between the two has birthed Omander shippers around the world. And after the show premiered, Ayuso came out in real life as well.

It's clear that his time in Elite has meant a great deal to him. And in a new Instagram post, Ayuso seems to announce his departure from the TV series after five seasons.

"After the week of the premiere, I did not want to stop sharing these two images: my first and last shot in what has been the most important emotional journey of my life, so far," Ayuso wrote. "In one image the excited and insecure child, in the other the not so child even more excited and much more insecure than when he started."

He continued;

"ELITE, we owe each other so many things that I think the best thing is to leave him alone :) thanks to all the people who have held my hand at the beginning of this strange path that is already mine, in which I hope we will return to find many times." Ayuso then says goodbye to the character. "Thanks omar, we have given each other a lot of life and many wars xd the show must go on!!!!"

We don't know what's next for him irl or his Elite character – Omar is alive and well at the end of season 5 and it's unclear how they'll write him off the show – but Ayuso seems to be trying his hand in filmmaking. He wrote and directed the Spanish film Matar a la madre, which premiered in Spain earlier this year.
