Jennifer Lopez’s ABC Family series The Fosters is on the super fast track as last week it was announced that Teri Polo and Sherri Saum would star as the lesbian mom couple raising a biological son, several adopted kids and a troubled girl they take in.

Now, Australian actress Maia Mitchell (pictured) has been cast Callie, the troubled teen who disrupts the Fosters’ way of life, while Louisiana native David Lambert will play their biological son Brandon, reports Deadline.

Polo and Saum  play Stef and Lena respectively, a mixed race couple. Saum’s Lena is a school principal who agrees to take Callie in without consulting with her partner Stef, who’s described as a “tough but kind” police officer who’s not initially looking to add to the family, reports THR.

Pop diva and actress Lopez will produce series as well as guest star on it. Also attached to produce are Simon Fields (Lopez's partner at Nuyorican Productions), Greg Gugliotta (Beautiful Girl) and out actor, director and producer Peter Paige (Queer as Folk).

Considering ABC Family’s thoughtful representation of characters on the LGBT spectrum on Pretty Little Liars, The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Greek, we’re really excited about The Fosters.
