American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is in love with the idea of lesbian talk show host Ellen DeGeneres joining the show next season. DioGuardi and former American Idol judge Paula Abdul allegedly had quite a stormy relationship on set, but DioGuardi is psyched about Abdul's replacement.
"I think it's a genius decision. I wish I had thought of it," DioGuardi told People. "I know a little bit about Ellen from watching her show and I would says she would probably be somebody who would be fair in her criticism and will try to be as supportive as she possibly could. I think it's going to be a lot of fun."
Unlike Abdul, who seemingly clashed with Simon Cowell and DioGuardi on a near-nightly basis, according to rumors, DioGuardi thinks Ellen will get along with the other judges "100 percent."
"I was on her show once and she's lovely, generous, very kind," DioGuardi said. "I think it's going to be great.
We certainly think it would be a lot more fun to see Ellen plant a lip-smacker on DioGuardi on American Idol than watching Paula pinning down Simon Cowell to smooch him - an image I still cringe at. Eewww.
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest is also bonzo over Ellen's addition to the cast. "We love Ellen, she is a superstar," Seacrest told Fox News at the Emmys Sunday night. "She will change the sexual tension... Simon and Paul had a specific sort of tension, but this will be quite different..."
