Lady Gaga Is Going to Testify in Dr. Luke's Defamation Lawsuit Against Kesha

Kesha's legal troubles are far from over.

Despite her triumphant return to music with her critically-acclaimed new album Rainbow, Kesha's legal battles with her alleged abuser Dr. Luke rage on.

In 2014, Kesha filed a lawsuit against her producer, Dr. Luke, for nine years of sexual assault, battery, and emotional and psychological abuse, and asked to be released from her contract with Kemosabe Records. Dr. Luke has since countersued for defamation, claiming that Kesha made everything up to break the contract with his label.

Dr. Luke now believes texts between Kesha and her friend, global phenomenon Lady Gaga, can help his case. In June, Gaga was subpoenaed by Dr. Luke's legal team for records of the text exchange. Gaga obliged and her team submitted a four-page "heavily redacted" version of the conversations, but Dr. Luke's people aren't buying it.

Following the subpoena, the producer's team originally said Gaga refused to testify "because Dr. Luke's counsel has not been able to obtain, despite repeated request, a deposition date from Lady Gaga." He now wants to see Gaga in court. Gaga's representatives quickly shot back with a statement of their own:

"Dr. Luke's team is attempting to manipulate the truth and draw press attention to their case by exaggerating Lady Gaga's role and falsely accusing her of dodging reasonable requests."

Gaga's lawyer, Orin Snyder, said in a statement, "Lady Gaga has always been prepared to testify so long as reasonable limitations were established. That has now been accomplished." The superstar will be required to "produce unredacted copies of certain of the documents that were previously produced in redacted form."

Gaga will testify in court this September.
