There's a difference between kindness and tacit approval of monstrous acts.

Ellen DeGeneres is facing some serious backlash after being spotted hanging out with President George W. Bush at an NFL game over the weekend.

The broadcast of the game caught Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi sitting next to President Bush and his wife Laura in a stadium suite. A still showing Ellen and Bush appearing to laugh at something together soon circulated online, forcing Ellen to address the issue on her show yesterday.

“Here’s the thing: I’m friends with George Bush,” she said. “In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different, and I think we’ve forgotten that’s okay that we’re different.”

She continued” “When I say, ‘Be kind to one another,’ I don’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do. I mean be kind to everyone. Doesn’t matter.”

While conservatives were quick to jump on the bandwagon and praise Ellen for defending her friendship with a man who fought against marriage equality and launched a war based on lies, many considered her take on the situation irresponsible.
