Michelle Obama Congratulates Beyoncé on Homecoming in Twitter Video
Their friendship is such #goals.
Beyoncé’s Netflix documentary Homecoming has been the talk of the Twittersphere since its release on Wednesday, but a new voice has just joined the conversation.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama had a message for Bey after viewing the special, and took to Twitter to share it.
“Hey, queen!” Michelle begins. “Girl, you have done it again. Constantly raising the bar for us all, and doing it flawlessly. I’d say I’m surprised, but I know who you are. I’ve seen it up close and personal. Girl, you make me so proud, and I love you.”
\u201cSo proud of my girl! The Queen has done it again. @Beyonce, thank you for always living your truth. #Homecoming\u201d— Michelle Obama (@Michelle Obama) 1555606859
“I also love that your new Netflix film, Homecoming, is informed by the black leaders, thinkers, and poets who’ve paved the way for folks like us. I love that it’s both a celebration and a call to action. And I love that you’re using this film to inspire the next generation of history makers and record breakers who’ll run the world in the years ahead.”
“So to you, my dear friend, I just want to say: Keep telling the truth,” she continued. “Because you can do it in a way that no one else can.”
The Obamas and the Carters have a long history of friendship, from Beyoncé singing at President Obama’s inauguration ball to Michelle attending Bey’s bday, and there’s even photos of the Obamas attending a concert Jay-Z and Beyoncé put on in D.C. last year.
So Michelle’s words of praise for Beyoncé come as no surprise (plus there’s the part where Homecoming is, um, amazing), and are particularly meaningful as they follow Beyoncé’s own praise for the former First Lady as part of Time’s “100 Most Influential People” issue.
Basically, queens love queens, and it’s a wonderful world where we get to watch that play out on social media.
