Former Disney Channel star Christy Carlson Romano is spilling all the tea.
You might remember her from many of her hit shows and films, Kim Possible, Even Stevens, and Cadet Kelly, just to name a few. These days, YouTube is her chosen format of storytelling. In the last few weeks, the 37-year-old has spoken candidly about former relationships, missed opportunities, and several what happened to... moments. Her most viewed videos include "Why I Don't Talk To Shia LaBeouf", "How I Lost All My Money", and "How Katy Perry Got My Record Deal", each drumming up hundreds of thousands – sometimes even millions – of views.
Romano spoke with InStyle Magazine about her recent confessionals and why now feels like the time for the former child star to share everything. "I have never really been vulnerable [on screen] because the characters that I've portrayed are so put together, and so empowered, and literally saving the world," she explained. "So I've never been able to be myself in front of the camera. Obviously, I've struggled just like many people have struggled, but ultimately I've come out with knowledge of how to be a mom and how to get your craft together."
Romano goes on to reflect on the lasting impact of the shows she starred in, what it's like hearing the Kim Possible ringtone everywhere, the good and bad music she did release, workout gear, and even where she sees her iconic characters now. For instance, where would Cadet Kelly's Jennifer be today?
"We've always thought that there could have been an LGBTQ underlying thing there, but we're not sure."
Give us this sequel movie NOW. We WILL be writing a letter to Disney executives.
Many fans have thought there was some sexual tension between Kelly and Jennifer, Decider even wrote a whole thinkpiece about it, so it's great to see that that chemistry wasn't just all in our heads.
