Actress and comedienne Fran Drescher launched her “‘Love Is Love’ Gay Marriage Contest,” where LGBT couples in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut enter a contest and possibly have the Happily Divorced star officiate their weddings in New York. Three gay couples can win and the event happens on March 6, 2012.
The online contest is happening on the Happily Divorced Facebook page and will end at 11:59pm ET/8:59pm PT TOMORROW, February 20, 2012. Candidates must either submit a video (not more than 120 seconds in length) or a photo and 350-word essay telling their love story. The submission should explain how their relationship best represents the idea that “love is love” and why they want Drescher to perform their ceremony. Once the entry period has closed, Drescher will hand-select her top three couples based on their story and originality.
“It is our duty to recognize that injustice exists and shift national consciousness to correct that injustice," Drescher said via a press release. "Marriage equality is our opportunity to uphold our constitutional values, to stretch beyond our comfort zone and mature into a better version of ourselves. It is only by example that we may continue to be a beacon of freedom for the rest of the world. This is a no brainer, people; after all... love is love."
