Whether you're a tennis fan or not, this is news you'll love to hear. Emma Stone has been cast as tennis star and advocate for sexual equality Billie Jean King in Fox Searchlight's upcoming Battle of the Sexes, according to Deadline. For the less tennis-inclined, the "Battle of the Sexes" was the actual name of a real-life face off between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, who will be portrayed by Steve Carell in the film. Simon Beaufoy penned the script while in communcation with Billie Jean herself, and Danny Boyle and Christian Colson will produce. This is the same team behind Slumdog Millionaire and with credits including 127 Hours, Birdman, and Little Miss Sunshine between them, so expect this to be as good as it gets and with plenty of award season potential. 

This isn't the first "Battle of the Sexes" film on the scene, but it might be the brightest. HBO is working on its own with Elizabeth Banks as King and Paul Giamatti as Riggs and Chernin Entertainment and Gary Sanchez are developing one with Will Ferrell attached as Riggs. Still, we'll be betting on Emma and Steve and officially declaring Searchlight's Battle of the Sexes one of our most anticipated films of 2016.
