Margaret Witt, the Spokane nurse discharged under “don’t ask, don’t tell” who was ordered by a judge to be reinstated to the Air Force Reserve this fall, says she plans to be back with her unit by January.
Witt was suspended in 2004 and later discharged after her relationship with a female co-worker at her civilian job was reported to military officials.
She sued, and U.S. District Judge Ronald Leighton ordered that she be reinstated.
The U.S. Justice Department has appealed Leighton’s decision but not the reinstatement order.
Witt has to complete 180 hours of work as a registered nurse before returning to the Air Force. She says she plans to complete those hours sometime in January.
