Constance McMillen is fighting for her equality and on Saturday night, Wanda Sykes interviewed the lesbian student, reports the Advocate.
The 18-year-old student is becoming more popular than most teenagers her age after her Mississippi high school shut down their prom because she wanted to bring her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo. The ACLU filed a lawsuit against the high school.
"All I wanted was the same chance to enjoy my prom night like any other student," McMillen said in a statement last week. "But my school would rather hurt all the students than treat everyone fairly. This isn't just about me and my rights anymore - now I'm fighting for the right of all the students at my school to have our prom."
McMillen appeared on The Wanda Sykes Show over the weekend to discuss her appreciation for the many supporters and express the importance of standing up for your rights.
During the interview, Sykes invited McMillen to Los Angeles in April so that McMillen could attend the GLAAD Awards, where Sykes is being honored.
McMillen now has over 200,000 supporters on the Facebook group Let Constance Take her Girlfriend to Prom.
