This Sam Smith Photo Incited a Body-Shaming Debate on Gay Twitter

"Sam Smith won’t see your tweet, but your friends with similar body-types will."
Sam Smith's newfound confidence has been liberating for the singer-songwriter, and you can see it all over their face in their music as well as their photos. The nonbinary "Unholy" singer is clearly living their best life, and we're so happy to see it.
But not everyone is supportive. For whatever reason, this inspired some Twitter users to start publicly making fun of and body-shaming Smith.

Tweets like this one quickly stirred up some drama on gay Twitter. While some people are joining on the bullying of Smith, way more are defending them and their body type.
“Gays be like, "I was bullied and body shamed." And do shit like this.

Sam Smith doesn't want you and is wiping his tears away with his money that he earned by putting himself out there and being unapologetically himself.”— Dusty_Buns (@Dusty_Buns) 1672334105
“I don’t even like Sam smith but I’ll leave this here”— 🕰🌙 nils sjöberg (@🕰🌙 nils sjöberg) 1672275091
“More people in our community look like Sam Smith than the unnatural steroid bodies y’all obsess over. Sam Smith won’t see your memes body shaming him but queer people without Sam Smith’s confidence and resources to protect themselves will! Grow the fuck up!”— Achmat X (@Achmat X) 1672280708
At the end of the day, just be kind y'all. The following tweet really summed up the conversation the best: "Sam Smith won’t see your tweet, but your friends with similar body-types will."
