When Heated Rivalry premiered, it became an instant hit and a cultural phenomenon, gaining a rabid fanbase that craves more time with the beloved characters.

The smutty gay hockey romance — based on Rachel Reid’s Game Changer series — will get a second season in April 2027 and while creator Jacob Tierney has confirmed that it will be based on main character’s Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov’s (Connor Storrie) follow up novel The Long Game, fans are wondering what’s next for the show’s other couple.

Episode three of Heated Rivalry focused on the love story between hockey captain Scott Hunter (François Arnaud) and smoothie barista Kip Grady (Robbie G.K.), but in the book series, the couple’s story continues to unfold and overlap with Ilya and Shane’s long after the events of the show.

Rumors have been swirling that a Scott and Kip — affectionately called “Skip” by fans — spin-off show is in the works, though it has yet to be confirmed by an official source.

"Scott and Kip are rumored to receive their own four episode limited spinoff series centered on their relationship, expanding on the storyline introduced in the original show," a now-viral post on X claims.

Are we actually going to get more of Scott and Kip’s romance? Let’s break down the rumor and what a spin-off show could look like.

Spoilers for the Game Changer series to follow.

So far, there hasn’t been an official confirmation that we’ll be getting a Scott and Kip spin-off show, but that hasn’t stopped people connected to Heated Rivalry from speculating.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live in January, host Andy Cohen asked Arnaud if he thought his character’s love story would continue in the show's second season, and his answer left the door open for the possibility of a spin-off.

“Oh, I’m hearing all sorts of things,” Arnaud replied. “I’m sure that you will see more of them,” he continued before admitting that he was “anxious” to find out if fans will get more of Scott and Kip “in the main show or in a spin-off.”

When talking to Variety, Arnaud also said, “I’ve heard talks about that,” when asked about a potential spin-off.

At the 2026 GLAAD Media Awards, Kip actor Robbie G.K. told Extra that he hopes that his character eventually gets to marry Scott on screen.

G.K. said he envisioned his character wearing "a loose-fitting white linen shirt with a deep V” to his wedding: “I think it would be a fun scene to film.”

Tierney has refused to go into specifics about season two or whether there will be any spin-off shows following the other characters in the Game Changer universe, but he did hint to the hosts of the What Chaos! podcast that he’s not done with Scott and Kip yet.

“What I will say is the same thing I’ve been saying is that we are definitely looking to explore a lot of options for this universe and obviously, we love Scott and Kip, we love Francois, we love Robbie, we love Nadine [Bhabha], we love the Kingfisher, we love that whole world. So there’s certainly, you know, potential to do something with that.”

Scott's and Kip’s love story unfolds during the third episode of Heated Rivalry, which ends with a breakup after Kip admits that he can’t live in the closet with Scott, who is terrified that coming out will end his NHL career.

The show then skips past the two men getting back together after Scott bravely comes out to his agent, coach, and a few of his teammates — events that take place in the Game Changer novel the show is adapted from — before their story picks up again at the end of episode five.

The climax of that episode happens when Shane and Ilya finally decide to take a chance on their relationship after watching Scott pull Kip onto the ice to kiss him in front of the whole world after winning the Stanley Cup — effectively coming out to everyone.

After kissing his boyfriend in the most public way possible, Scott held a press conference where he came out officially and talked about the homophobia he’s experienced in the league.

Episode three of Heated Rivalry ends with Scott looking longingly through the window of the gay bar The Kingfisher as Kip celebrates his birthday inside with their friends. In the book, Scott gets a do-over of sorts after he wins the Stanley Cup when he finally gets to dance with Kip at the Kingfisher during a Scott Hunter Night celebration that even Ilya attends (and tells Scott that coming out “will be good…for others”).

“Out at a gay club with his best friends — his teammates — and his boyfriend and, uh, Ilya Rozanov. Dancing. Laughing. Celebrating his sexuality instead of hiding it. It was surreal and wonderful,” Scott thinks in the novel.

The Game Changer series has six books already — Tierney has optioned the upcoming seventh book that is a continuation of Shane and Ilya’s love story — and since they are all interconnected, Scott and Kip continue to show up in all of the books, giving Tierney plenty of content for a spin-off show.

Scott and Kip make cameos in Common Goal, Role Model, and the Shane and Ilya sequel novel The Long Game. The two men feature heavily in Common Goal, which is focused on hockey star Eric and Kingfisher bartender Kyle, because Kyle has had a years-long crush on Kip, and Scott helps support Eric as he comes out as bisexual.

A spin-off could also give fans a romantic proposal and wedding as Scott and Kip get fall in love and eventually get married during the events of Common Goal. Scott also ends up buying the Kingfisher, which becomes a frequent meeting spot for the queer characters in the book series.

Later, Scott becomes an advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusivity within the hockey world, and in The Long Game, Shane and Ilya offer to get involved after Scott lends them support when they are outed.

Whether or not we’ll ever get a Scott and Kip spin-off show is still up in the air, but if Tierney decides to go in that direction, there is plenty left to explore with these characters.
