Yes, yes, we know it’s still summer. But spooky season is right around the corner and today we have something new to start building anticipation for that time of year: The first images from out director Nahnatchka Khan’s horror comedy Totally Killer just dropped.
The film takes place 35 years after the shocking murder of three teens when the infamous “Sweet Sixteen Killer“ returns on Halloween night to hunt down his fourth. Kiernan Shipka stars as Jamie, a 17-year-old who, like many teens in horror movies, ignores her overprotective mom’s (Julie Bowen) warnings and ends up coming face-to-face with the masked maniac. Fleeing from the slasher killer, she accidentally time travels back to 1987, the year the original killings first happened. Now, she’s forced to not only survive a killer on the loose but to also navigate the unfamiliar and outrageous culture of the 1980s. To do both, she teams up with her mom, now a teen again (played by Olivia Holt), to take down the killer once and for all before she’s stuck in the totally radical ’80s forever.
Starring alongside Shika, Holt, and Bowen are Charlie Gillespie, Lochlyn Munro, Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson, Liana Liberato, Kelcey Mawema, Stephi Chin-Salvo, Anna Diaz, Ella Choi, Jeremy Monn-Djasgnar, Nathaniel Appiah, Jonathan Potts, and Randall Park.
It’s the slasher time-traveling horror comedy we never knew we needed. Plus coming from director Khan (Always Be My Maybe, Fresh Off the Boat) we’re sure it’s going to be a hilarious good time.
