Jerrod Carmichael To Host The 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards
The out comic's star continues to rise and we love to see it.
The host of this year’s Golden Globes Awards has been named and this time he’s family!
Out comic Jerrod Carmichael has landed the hosting gig for the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards and we are gagged. Honestly the “Hollywood Party of the Year” being hosted by a queer person just feels correct.
“We’re so excited to have Jerrod Carmichael host the historic 80th Golden Globe Awards. His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the HFPA in the press release. “Jerrod is the special kind of talent this show calls for to kick off the awards season.”
“Jerrod is a phenomenal talent with a fresh perspective and excellent comedic style,” added Jesse Collins, executive producer and CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment. “We’re all thrilled to have him host this year’s show.”
Carmichael came out earlier this year in his HBO special Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel. During it, Carmichael shared stories about his family, its history, and how it all impacted his coming out process. In the hilarious and deeply heartfelt special, he expresses the all-too-familiar feeling of the weight of keeping a secret. He also poignantly opened up about how coming out impacted his relationships with friends and family, for the better but sadly sometimes for the worst.
This brilliant comedy special earned Carmichael an Emmy Award for writing/ He also received a second Emmy nomination for his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live. So, yeah, the comic knows a thing or two about winning awards. All of which is to say, he’s a great choice to host the ceremony and we can’t wait to see what he does.
The 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards kicks off the 2023 award season on January 10, airing on both NBC and Peacock.
