Certain shows can have pretty disappointing (and/or confusing!) storylines when trying to include LGBTQ+ characters and themes... and that is what we got with the grand finale of Riverdale.

After seven seasons on The CW, Riverdale ended with a surprise reveal: best friends Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica were happily in a four-way polyamorous relationship!

However, despite the four besties ending up in a polyamorous four-way relationship, the show never showed Archie and Jughead hooking up – making them the only combination in the foursome not to.

The absence of a kiss between the best-friends-turned-partners led some fans to wonder if the scene had been shot but was ultimately left on the cutting room floor.

“We did not shoot KJ and Cole hooking up,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed to TV Line. He said that with the other pairings, the show explored the chemistry between the characters.

“We hadn’t even really laid even the barest seed of there being a romance between Archie and Jughead. Not even a whisper of that… We hadn’t really explored or even hinted at that, where we had with all the other couplings.” Aguirre-Sacasa said.

He added that the writers did consider throwing in a kiss between the two, but ultimately scrapped it. “It was just like, ‘Is this a cheat if we do this?'” he said.

“When I look back, wouldn’t it have been great to just pop to KJ and Cole kissing? Absolutely! I think everyone would’ve been up for it,” he said. “I think Cole and KJ would’ve completely been up for it. Who doesn’t want to see that?”

We definitely would’ve loved to see it!
