“You’ve got to support your child because there’s so many people who will try to discriminate against them, so they need you to support them. If you don’t support them, who will?”

During a recent appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' afternoon talk show, former Lakers point guard and NBA legend Magic Johnson talked about his son EJ's coming out, and how it's important for parents of queer children to love and be there for their children.

"...I think it’s all about you not trying to decide what your daughter or son should be or what you want them to become. It’s all about loving them no matter who they are or what they decide to do," Johnson told DeGeneres. "When my son came out, I was so happy for him and happy for us as parents. We love him and EJ is amazing."

He continued:

"You’ve got to support your child because there’s so many people who will try to discriminate against them, so they need you to support them. If you don’t support them, who will?"

Future parents of LGBT kids, please take note.
