On what would've been the Queen frontman's 71st birthday, the first glimpse of Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury has been released.
Malek is starring in Bohemian Rhapsody, a Freddie Mercury biopic chronicling Queen's meteoric rise into superstardom from 1970 to 1985. Director Bryan Singer (X-Men Apocalypse) told Entertainment Weekly the film would honor Mercury's life and music, and wouldn't be a traditional biopic. "It won’t just be the dark Freddie story, but that being said, that also will be honored," said Singer. "It’s about collaboration. It’s a celebration."
Malek's transformation into the iconic queer singer is jaw-dropping to say the least, and even the Mr. Robot actor was pleasantly surprised by his own drastic change of appearance. "When you’re able to open your eyes and see a different person staring back at you in the mirror, it’s a very affirming moment."
The film is expected for a December 25, 2018 release.
