The success of this year's Love, Simon has proved that audiences want to see queer-themed, romantic comedies where gay characters get their happily ever after. And now, thanks to the creative minds behind Love, Simon and 13 Reasons Why, the world is soon going to be getting more gay rom-com goodness!
According to a report by Variety, entertainment company Anonymous Content just landed the rights to produce a film based on What If It's Us, an upcoming, young adult novel about two gay teens in New York City looking for love (and each other).
The novel was written by Becky Albertalli (the author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, the book that Love, Simon was based on) in collaboration with fellow author Adam Silvera, and is slated to hit bookstore shelves on October 9. It will be adapted for the silver screen by 13 Reasons Why creator Brian Yorkey and will be produced by Joy Gorman Wettels, who also worked on 13 Reasons Why.
Although much is still not known about when the film will start production or when it will be released, we do know one thing: we'll be some of the first people in the theater to see it!
