Are we finally getting another Princess Diaries movie??

Anne Hathaway stopped by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen yesterday to promote her new film, but took some time to discuss what everyone truly cares about the most: the possibility of the long-awaited Princess Diaries 3.

“There is a script for the third movie,” Hathaway confirmed. “I want to do it. Julie wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it.”

If both Anne Hathaway AND Julie Andrews are in, so are we.

In case you lived under a rock during the early years of Hathaway’s career, The Princess Diaries was about a nerdy teenage girl who discovers her late father was the heir to the kingdom of Genovia, and now that role will one day pass to her. She goes to Genovia to meet her grandmother the queen, played by Andrews, and has to learn how to act like royalty herself.

The first film also starred queer actress Heather Matarazzo as Hathaway’s character’s best friend and Mandy Moore as her rival, and the sequel added Chris Pine as the love interest.

Though rumors of a third installment have swirled for several years now, the delay likely has less to do with lack of interest and more to do with the fact that Gary Marshall, the director of the original films, died unexpectedly in 2016.

“I was with Anne Hathaway a couple of weeks ago,” he said in an interview a couple months before he died. “It looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan.”

No word yet as to whether that’s still the plan, or what the plot of the third film would be, but it’s written! There’s a script! Let’s get moving, people!
