Is it Thanksgiving yet??

As Hollywood ground to a halt earlier this year when the coronavirus outbreak spread across the United States, the fate of all sorts of film and TV productions suddenly became unknown. Some shut down in the middle of filming, others never got off the ground, but a few squeaked by just in time — and the queers can be thankful that Happiest Season is among those that made it.

We weren’t entirely sure if Clea DuVall finished shooting her highly anticipated Christmas romcom before COVID-19 shut down most of the country, but a tweet from the film’s account on Friday confirmed that it’s on schedule to hit its planned Thanksgiving release date.

Happiest Season stars Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis as girlfriends who head back to Davis’s family’s house for the holidays. Stewart’s character plans to propose during the trip, only to discover that her gf’s fam not only doesn’t know anything about their relationship, but is still completely in the dark about Davis’s character’s sexuality.

The movie was directed by DuVall from a script co-written by her and Mary Holland. It also features some perpetual faves such as Victor Garber, Mary Steenburgen, Aubrey Plaza, and Schitt's Creek's Dan Levy.

The photo posted on Twitter is the first real glance we’ve gotten behind the scenes of the film, and it’s safe to say everyone’s excitement is OFF THE CHARTS.

One can only hope that the pesky issue of a worldwide pandemic will have come to some sort of conclusion by Thanksgiving so we can show up in droves for this wild rarity of an LGBTQ holiday romcom. Because truly, the gays deserve this.
