The new trailer shares some striking similarities between the two films.

The first trailer for Disney Pixar's latest animated film Luca is here and while it is positively adorable, some viewers are noticing striking similarities to another film set in the Italian countryside.

Luca follows two boys, Luca Paguro and Alberto Scorfano. "On the Italian Riviera, an unlikely but strong friendship grows between a human being and a sea monster disguised as a human," the official description reads.

The trailer is so cute, and it's easy to see how Luca and Alberto prancing around the countryside might remind viewers of Elio and Oliver in the romance film Call Me By Your Name

With this trailer release, the 2017 film, as well as Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer began trending on Twitter. Putting images from the two films side by side, it's hard to deny some of the similarities.

Of course, there are many differences between the films. Don't expect a romance between Luca and Alberto. They're actually not even human beings but sea monsters who've taken on a human form, so their priorities are most likely elsewhere.

Enrico Casarosa, the director of the film, grew up in the Italian countryside which explains the scene and vibe similarities. Luca is most definitely a coming of age story about the bonds of friendship, as he explained to Entertainment Tonight. "I think so many of us have these friendships that are right smack in the middle of when we're just leaving the confines of the family, that really help define our identity. What are you? What are you not?"

Luca is set for a June 18, 2021 theatrical release.
