New Rihanna Music Might Be on the Way—Just Don't Expect a Whole Album

The new music drought might be over soon, but don't expect too much too soon!

We miss Rihanna.

She didn't go anywhere and nothing bad happened to her, or anything like that. As a matter of fact, she's become an incredibly successful and groundbreaking figure in the fashion and beauty spaces in the past few years, showcasing just how diverse and inclusive the future of retail can be.

No, the reason we miss her is that, as any music stan who came of age in the 2000s and 2010s can tell you, it's been FOREVER since we've heard new material from the pop legend.

Yup, it's been over five years since the Grammy-winner turned makeup guru released her critically-acclaimed 8th studio album ANTI (which spawned her record-breaking 14th #1 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Work"), and although fans all over the world have been literally BEGGING her to release R9 sometime in the near future, there is literally no sign as to when (or if) that will ever happen.

That is, until now.

In a recent Instagram post, RiRi herself shared a video commemorating all of the success of ANTI, which continues to stay on the Billboard 200 albums chart even five years after its release (she's the first Black woman to accomplish this feat in history).

Aside from all of the congratulatory comments, there were the usual folks who were asking for some new material from the bad gal. And one of them seems to have gotten through.

"Celebrate by releasing a song!!" user @scxwithari wrote

"I think I should," Rihanna replied. "Just 1 tho lol."

While the vague, comedic promise of just one song is not the same as a full-length album that people have been waiting on for years, at this point in the Rihanna music drought, we'll take what we can get. Will this "just one song" ever see the light of day? And will we be getting it anytime soon? Only time will tell...

In the meantime, we can just keep streaming ANTI — you know, like we have been for the past five years...
