Jussie Smollett Might Get Suspended from Empire
But that's probably the least of his worries.
Jussie Smollett's time on Empire might be coming to an end soon.
According to a report by Variety, the FOX show's producers are still deciding whether or not they are going to suspend Smollett from production on the popular musical drama.
The news of Smollett's possible suspension comes on the heels of his arrest early Thursday morning on felony charges of falsifying a police report for an alleged attack.
In late January, the openly gay actor/singer (who plays Jamal Lyon on Empire) told Chicago police that he was attacked in an alleged hate crime by two men who physically assaulted him, poured an unknown chemical on him, tied a noose around his neck, and yelled racial and homophobic slurs at him.
An outpouring of support from celebrity colleagues came, and as Variety also points out, FOX even stood by Smollett when rumors started circulating that he was set to be written off the show.
Nigerian-American brothers and fitness coaches Olabinjo "Ola" Osundairo and Abimbola "Abel" Osundairo were arrested on February 13 in connection to the crime, but were later released on February 15 with no charges filed against them after they produced new evidence in the investigation that suggested Smollett might have orchestrated the attack.
Smollett himself was then named a suspect in the case and turned himself in to Chicago authorities early Thursday morning. He is facing a Class 4 felony. If found guilty, he could face up to three years of prison time.
