Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway will step into some ruby red slippers when she plays Judy Garland in the biopic and Broadway adaptation of Gerald Clarke’s biography Get Happy.

No other cast details have been announced but the projects producer Harvey Weinstein described Hathaway as, “brilliantly talented … She will be a true class act.”

The life of Judy Garland, a gifted star signed to MGM at a young age, ended tragically with her accidental overdose at age 47 in 1969. She starred in dozens of films, including the classic “Wizard of Oz” and was nominated for multiple Oscars.

Hathaway is notably taller than the five-foot pintsized Garland though, at 5’8”.
