Rosie Live Bombs: She Blogs There Will Be No More

Rosie Live, the pre-Thanksgiving Variety Show extravaganza bombed so badly, Rosie O’Donnell wrote on her blog Saturday that the show is over.

Ratings and reviews for Rosie Live were equally abysmal, with the show pulling in 5.04 million viewers according to the Nielsen Media Research.

When a fan asked O’Donnell about the future of her variety show, which was intended as a test case for a possible regular show, O’Donnell responded “there will be no more. no ratings. bad reviews. yet still a thrill for me.”

Rosie Live featured a watered down opening monologue stripped of O’Donnell’s trademark button-pushing and outspokenness, followed by a duet with Liza Minnelli.

Other gags that fell flat included Alec Baldwin smashing a pie in Conan O’Brien’s face, acerbic comedian Kathy Griffin ripping on conservative Nancy Grace and an extended gay joke between O’Donnell and Clay Aiken.

While O’Donnell’s attempt to revive the seventies-era staple of television, the variety show, tanked, her former boss at The View, Barbara Walters, pulled in 11.65 million viewers in the 10 p.m. slot with an interview of President Elect Barack Obama.
