In the most recent episode of their "Paying Attention" interview series, news and politics website ATTN: sat down with out, gay YouTuber and LGBT rights activist Connor Franta to talk about his coming out process, dealing with online bullies, and what his thoughts are on Trump's presidency so far.
"He, at the moment, means a lot of uncertainty and potential fear," Franta said when asked by ATTN:'s editor in chief Matthew Segal about what having Trump in the White House means for the LGBT community. "Despite what a lot of people think, he really hasn't talked about what his plans are for the LGBT community, so that uncertainty does definitely make me very uneasy."
He later went on to talk about how members of Trump's cabinet—like Vice President Mike Pence—were the scariest prospect about the entire administration in regards to LGBT rights and equality, especially when you consider his past support for damaging and traumatizing gay conversion therapy.
"A lot of them are very vocal that they do not support LGBT people," Franta said. "Some of them support conversion therapy, which is the most gross thing in the world."
He continued:
"It's disturbing to think that someone in 2017 think that you can 'fix' someone for being who they are. It's truly disturbing. It's also scary to see that someone like that can get to that level of power and have that level of support behind them. It's just scary."
