In a not surprisingly but still equally devastating move, the Trump administration is attempting to legally erase transgender people on a federal level.
According to the New York Times, Trump hopes to define gender under Title IX as a “biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth,” meaning that how one identifies will have no legal binding. Any dispute with regards to someone's gender will be clarified with genetic testing. If this intiative passes, it will have devastating repercussions for the safety and welfare of transgender individuals living in the United States.
Cher, who’s been outspoken against the current administration, was quick to condemn the new proposed changes, tweeting:
Of course, Cher is referring to her son, Chaz Bono, who is transgender. Chaz also took to Twitter to voice his concern and outrage.
