A new report from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has found that gay characters have hit an all-time high on broadcast TV — but the news in the 14^th annual survey isn’t all good for the LGBT community. Kudos to Glee for its gay character --and for casting Jane Lynch-- and to Grey's Anatomy for primetime's only lesbian character, Jessica Capshaw's Arizona Robbins.

Perennial lesbian fave and Oscar nominee Diane Lane has signed on to play the matriarch of the Santa Barbara based Loud family in an HBO scripted film about the family that ushered in the age of reality television.  The 1973 benchmark PBS series An American Family, happened to feature America's first gay character, the Loud's eldest son Lance Loud.
