Why Did Instagram Delete Remy Duran's Account?

Is censorship to blame for the deletion of the Are You the One? star's Insta account?

After this week's finale of MTV's Are You the One?, the groundbreaking reality dating competition that featured a cast of all sexually-fluid contestants this season, the show's stars should be celebrating their newfound time in the spotlight with new friends and supporters on social media, right?

Well, that looks like that won't be happening for contestant Remy Duran, whose Instagram account got mysteriously deleted on Tuesday night.

Although he never got official notice from the extremely popular picture-sharing platform about why his account was suspended, he does theorize that the reason for the takedown was a selfie he took with fellow contestant—and now girlfriend—Paige Cole showing the two of them licking a dildo mounted to a wall.

Talking to Vice's Harron Walker, Duran reacted to his account deletion saying, "I’m so pissed. I thought, 'Oh, shit, my picture got taken down,' but my whole account got deleted without warning. I didn’t get an email. Nothing."

"I see so many things on Instagram that are a lot more adult than a dick on the wall," Cole, who posted the same picture to her Instagram but whose account was not deleted, also told Vice. "You see car accidents where people probably died, you see photos of animal abuse on popular pages. There are real issues on Instagram, but they have a problem with sex workers. They have a problem with a titty popping out. They have a problem with a gay man and his gay girlfriend posing with a dick on the wall. We say 'Homophobia!' jokingly, but there’s no excuse for deleting his account and not mine for literally posting the same content."

"Instagram is the biggest platform I have to promote my work," Remy then said, lamenting about the lost opportunities he could have had to promote his own fashion designs and products on Instagram.

The news of Remy's Instagram deletion comes on the heels of recent purges of adult content from many popular mainstream internet platforms, most notably the blogging site Tumblr
