Ryan Murphy Shared His Idea For Rebooting 'Glee' & Fans Have Thoughts

It's certainly different.

It’s only been five years since the ridiculous musical dramedy everyone either loved to hate or hated to love has been off the air, but Ryan Murphy is apparently already plotting a reboot of Glee.

The prolific showrunner jumped on Instagram last week to share his thoughts for how he would redo the iconic show were it made today.

“Imagine it’s 2009, and I lived in a world where I knew Lea Michele, Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein,” he wrote. “If I had access to that talent, here’s the new pilot: Lea and Ben are frenemies who fight for the heart and soul of Glee Club. Ben is also on the football team, and pretty much sleeps with the entire school and is the heartthrob of McKinley. Beanie is their mutual best friend, and torn. Suddenly, Beanie joins forces with Sue Sylvester, joins Glee Club and becomes the main soloist and the ruthless star of the club. Lea and Ben have to join forces to dethrone her.”

“I WANT TO SHOOT THIS DO OVER PILOT,” Murphy added. “Maybe I will?”

While it feels like a bit of a slap in the face to the actors who actually did make up the original Glee cast (minus Lea Michele and Jane Lynch), there’s certainly a compelling story there, and a whole lot of talent.

But Glee is both sacred and controversial af, so the internet, predictably, had some thoughts.

It seems unlikely that Murphy will be able to reshoot a version of Glee set in high school and starring all these actors, but it seems just as likely that Glee will get rebooted any day now, as the time between reboots is shrinking by the minute.

Personally, some of us would much rather see a season three of Scream Queens before we get to that point, but when has Murphy ever limited himself to one project at a time?

But also…maybe revisit Popular first, too, okay?
