The High Holy season of the year has officially begun! No, we're not talking about the holidays. We're talking about Awards Season! With the Golden Globe nominations out this morning Awards season has kicked into high gear, and there are a few LGBT-lady friendly nominations that made that cut!
First off, Palme d’Or winner Blue is the Warmest Color was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, and as well it should have been. Despite controversy over the lesbian sex scenes (“It’s too much, a straight man can’t direct a lesbian sex scene, it doesn’t depict how lesbians really have sex,” blah blah) it really is an acting tour de force for its stars Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux, and it’s a beautifully shot epic story of love between two young women, so good for Blue!
Next up, the outstanding Tatiana Maslany, who was snubbed by the Emmys, nabbed a nomination for her brilliantly schizophrenic work as several clones under siege from a nefarious organization on the excellent Orphan Black. We especially love her portrayal of the adorable lesbian scientist nerd clone Cosima! Go Tatiana!
Finally, Taylor Schilling got a nod for her bisexual Piper Chapman on Netflix’s breakout prison series Orange is the New Black. While we’re thrilled for Taylor it does seem like a gaffe that OITNB, with its outstanding ensemble cast and the crackerjack writing, did not receive a nomination for Best Drama.
Taylor will go head to head with Tatiana for the award in the Best Actress Drama category, which is already chock-full of deserving women including Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Kerry Washington for Scandal, and Robin Wright for House of Cards.
With Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosting the ceremony and all of the amazing women who landed nods, we might have to take the Monday after the Globes off.
Here’s the full list of nominations.
