Montreal’s Queer of the Year contest wants YOU to enter to be named the city’s most-deserving queer of the year. The QOTY contest welcomes all who identify as queer from around the globe to vie fro the title. The contest will be held in Montreal from seventh to 15th August 2011.

Brazil Votes to Legalize Same-Sex Civil Unions

Brazil voted to legalize civil unions Thursday, making it the largest of about 25 nations to pass civil union legislation. Brazil’s Supreme Court voted 10-0 in favor of civil unions, which will allow lesbian and gay couples to share in each other's inheritances, pensions and health plans.

South African Lesbian Activist Murdered

The Murder of the South African lesbian activist, who was stoned and stabbed to death, is part of an epidemic of hate crimes, according to Human Rights Watch. Noxolo Nogwaza was murdered in Kwa Thema Township outside Johannesburg on April 24, according to AFP. She was a member of the gay rights group the Ekurhuleni Pride Organizing Committee.
