Actress-turned-rocker Juliette Lewis is finishing up a feature documentary about her rock career, which she says she hopes to debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January, according to Variety.
The Whip It actress partnered with Chris Maybach and Patrick Cunningham of Maybach Entertainment, and her manager Brandy Lewis to produce the yet-unnamed doc. Lewis claims that the final product, which has been cut from almost 400 hours of footage, won’t be a vanity project. The focus will be on “an exploration of how performing live as a singer became a full-time primary career with extensive social networking.”
As for Lewis’ music career, she has produced four albums with her two bands, Juliette and the Licks and The New Romantiques, and has played hundreds of sold-out gigs, helping her become a festival favorite.

While her acting resume is full of variety, and even critics who don’t like her can’t deny she is a talented actress, Lewis has been able to make music into a career. “I’ve always been interested in living dangerously, so going into music like this has sort of been my unleashing my love affair with my audiences — a joyful middle finger to the world. I have a real muscular voice that gets compared to AC/DC,” she says.
For those of you awaiting Lewis’ return to acting, she appears in the upcoming independent drama Hick, and has taken a role in The Firm, a TV adaptation of the John Grisham novel which was also a Tom Cruise blockbuster. Lewis is also reported to have signed on to star in a “contemporary noir” from Justin Molotnikov titled Blood Or Water, set to film in Scotland in 2012.
