The all-American Sunday paper staple Parade Magazine's cover gal for the week is Ellen DeGeneres, and she’s got plenty to say in just a short interview.
Posing for a Halloween / Autumnal themed set of photos the Ellen also dished on coming out to her family and later publicly.
Regarding coming out to her family when she was 18 Ellen told Parade, “If anything, it was a shock to me. I’d always known that I had crushes on girls, but I also liked boys—though I wasn’t drawn to them romantically. For me to get in touch with myself enough to recognize that I was gay, and then not to stay private about it, was a huge step.”
The talk show host also said that Hollywood rejected her after she came out as a lesbian on her sitcom and in real life in 1997. "I didn't work, didn't have any money. No one [in the business] would even talk to me on the phone."
Regarding her wife Portia de Rossi Ellen was kept it short and sweet. “We just really love each other’s company,” she said.
