Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman: “Toughest Job” Says Christian Bale

Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman: “Toughest Job” Says Christian Bale

"In many ways, she has the hardest job. There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously."

Batman fans are still absorbing the news that Christian Bale will be hanging up the cowl after his final appearance as the masked crusader in The Dark Knight Rises.

But Bale had nothing but glowing praise for his costars in the latest Dark Knight chapter by Christopher Nolan, who ushered in the end of this Batman era.

"I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I’m taking that cowl off," Bale told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in an interview."I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it’s all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman era."

But The Dark Knight Rises still promises exciting new turns for audiences from some of the most familiar characters in Gotham City.

Bale said Anne Hathaway, who stepped into the tight cat-suit of Selina Kyle/Catwoman, shouldered the heaviest burden of the production. "In many ways, she has the hardest job. There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously,” he said, referencing the iconic turns by Michelle Pfeiffer and Ertha Kitt as the feline burglar. “So, I always saw Anne’s role as being the toughest job of any of us.”

The Dark Knight Rises rolls into theaters 20 July 2012.
