The new music video for Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” features a storyline about a lesbian relationship that turns suicidal.

The new music video for Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” features a storyline about a lesbian relationship that turns suicidal.

Del Rey and actress Jaime King appear in the video as troubled lesbian lovers fighting for their relationship through a haze of muted fog, spotty vintage flashbacks to their life together, seductive sepia tones and other special effects. The video ends in a slow-moving double suicide once the women realize their relationship can’t be saved.

No word on whether the storyline is based on real events, but a number of YouTube commenters speculate the song is about someone close to Lana – either a best friend or a boyfriend – who died in a car accident.

According to Billboard, “Summertime Sadness” is the fifth song from Del Rey’s album “Born to Die” to receive a music video. Watch the video below:
