Hero Mars is a 14-minute drama short from Skyler Cooper (The Owls, Elena Undone) and 5Blackstallion Productions about an unconventional artist struggling to shatter the restraints of prejudice in order to fulfill a sacred promise. The synopsis:
The story begins as Hero contemplates giving up a lifetime of hopes and dreams. Realizing it no longer seems possible to keep a promise made to a dying mother, financially bankrupt and emotionally alone, Hero struggles to survive. An invitation to audition for a world-class theatre company arrives from out of the blue. After seeking out a highly esteemed audition coach, Hero suffers a humiliating set back. However, through the bonds of friendship Hero finds the courage to face this great challenge.
Skyler, a Navy veteran and champion bodybuilder, stars in the title role as Hero, and makes her debut as writer, director and executive producer of Hero Mars. Before working in the arts, Skyler worked as a Robotic Field Service Engineer. Skyler, working with 2011 Nicholl Fellowship winner Cinthea Stahl, adapted a theatrical piece she wrote 10 years ago to create this short story with a classic theme of an individual and honor.
There will be a trailer screening fundraising event this Friday, July 27 at Secession Art & Design in San Francisco from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. The trailer will screen every 30 minutes beginning at 7:00 pm. Get more information about the event from Hero Mars on Facebook.
